A motorcyclist was killed and a child was left critically injured in a Thursday morning crash that shut down a section of East Lake Mead Boulevard.
A Kawasaki motorcycle driven by a 23-year-old man was headed west on Lake Mead Boulevard when a Chevrolet Malibu turning left out of Cypress Gardens community, in the 4600 block of Lake Mead Boulevard between Marion Drive and Dolly Lane, cut in front of him, according to Las Vegas police. Officers responded at 7:53 a.m.
The motorcycle collided with the left side of the Malibu, sending the man flying off the motorcycle and onto the road, where he died, police said. An 11-year-old boy in the back seat of the Malibu sustained critical injuries, police said, and was taken to University Medical Center.
Police said 38-year-old Alejandra Guerreo, who was driving the Malibu, was likely not impaired at the time of the crash.
East Lake Mead was opened by Thursday afternoon. At 5:40 p.m., all lanes were open to traffic.
The fatality was Metro’s 38th motor vehicle traffic fatality for 2015. The crash remained under investigation by Metro’s accident investigations section late Thursday afternoon, police said.
