Judge blocks sale of hair curlers shown at Las Vegas convention
A Nevada judge has issued a temporary restraining order against a Los Angeles-based company that sells hair-curling products.
The order, issued late Monday by U.S. District Judge Robert Jones, stems from a lawsuit filed by Conair Corp. and a subsidiary. The order bars Le Angelique Inc. from selling or marketing its EasyCurl hair-curling tool until Sept. 29.
Conair, which has headquarters in New Jersey, filed patent infringement lawsuits against Le Angelique and a Canadian corporation, INF Professional, in July after the two companies presented hair-curling products at an international trade show in Las Vegas.
According to the lawsuits, “Conair and its subsidiaries have experienced dramatic commercial success worldwide” with Miracurl, promoted under the Babyliss brand and the Curl Secret, promoted under the Conair brand.
The defendants offered to sell “confusingly similar” products at their booths at the CosmoProf trade show for beauty technology in Las Vegas, according to the complaints.
Conair dismissed its lawsuit against INF Professional in August.
