Lake Mead snorkeler died of heart disease, coroner says

The Sunday death of a snorkeler at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area was ruled an accident by the Clark County coroner.

Bonnie B. Wong, 63, of Las Vegas died of hypertensive heart disease, the coroner’s office reported. The coroner also reported “terminal submersion in water” as another significant condition related to her cause of death.

Wong surfaced from the lake unconscious while snorkeling in the Overton Arm of Lake Mead just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday. She was taken by boat to Calville Bay, but medical responders could not revive her. She was pronounced dead at 2:36 p.m.
