Man dead, another arrested after bike crash

One man died and another was arrested after a bicycle crash late Friday night, Las Vegas police said.

The collision happened about 11:40 p.m. when a 33-year-old man on a mountain bike was crossing Sahara Avenue, at the intersection of Mohawk Street. He was struck by a yellow 2008 Hyundai Accent traveling west on Sahara and just approaching the intersection, police said.

The bicyclist was taken to University Medical Center where he later died.

The driver, 40-year-old Abraham Lebron Jr., initially fled the scene, but turned himself in a short time later, police said. He was booked on charges of hit and run and driving under the influence involving death, they said.

This is Metro’s 50th traffic-related fatality for 2015.
