Man in wheelchair critical after being struck by vehicle

A 50-year-old man in a wheelchair who didn’t have the right of way was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle near the College of Southern Nevada on Wednesday night, Las Vegas police said.

The man’s identity was not released.

He was listed in critical condition at University Medical Center as of 8:30 p.m., said police Lt. Barb Schmidt.

Schmidt said the incident occurred at 6:51 p.m. near Charleston Boulevard and Community College Drive.

A vehicle was moving east on Charleston when the man in the wheelchair was crossing Community College from south to north.

Schmidt said preliminary information indicates the pedestrian in the wheelchair did not have the right of way. He did not have any traffic signal indicating he could cross the street.
