Motorcyclist charged with driving while impaired

The driver of a motorcycle that crashed Tuesday night, seriously injuring a toddler, was charged with driving while impaired, Las Vegas police say.

Dean Dungan II, 21, of Las Vegas, was driving the 2004 Suzuki Intruder when it crashed into a wrought iron fence about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Mead and Hollywood boulevards, police said. Dungan and his two passengers — his 3-year-old son and 18-year-old girlfriend, Savannah Payton of Boulder City — were ejected from the motorcycle.

The child had severe road rash and internal bleeding, police said, and Dungan had a broken leg. Both were taken to University Medical Center. Payton was not injured.

Las Vegas police said their fatal detail was investigating the crash but the father and son were expected to recover. Metro’s child abuse and neglect detectives also were looking into the crash.
