Motorcyclist killed in central Las Vegas Valley crash

(Las Vegas Review-Journal, File)

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday afternoon after a crash with a vehicle in the central Las Vegas Valley.

Around 2:15 p.m., a 30-year-old man riding a Kawasaki Ninja collided with a roll-off dumpster truck near Rancho Drive and Melody Lane, north of West Vegas Drive, according to a release from the Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators said the northbound 2000 Volvo VNM truck was traveling north on Rancho, trying to make a left turn onto Melody, when it crossed paths with the southbound Kawasaki. The motorcycle hit the back of the truck, throwing the rider onto the road.

The rider, whose identity the Clark County coroner’s office had not yet released, was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died. The truck driver, identified as Andres Beltran-Amaya, remained at the scene, showed no signs of impairment, and cooperated with police.

Metro noted in the release that the crash, which was the 113th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction, was still under investigation.
