A woman died Wednesday after police said she “darted” into the road and was hit by a box truck in the southwest Las Vegas Valley.

The woman, a 61-year-old Las Vegas resident, was struck by a 2023 Isuzu box truck on Blue Diamond Road, just east of Arville Street, at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a Metropolitan Police Department press release.

The woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had also “darted into the road and stopped in front of a tractor-trailer vehicle” on Blue Diamond just minutes earlier, police said. In that case, the tractor-trailer swerved and missed the woman, but crashed into a pickup truck.

“The evasive actions of the tractor-trailer caused another pickup truck to collide with it,” the press release said.

Authorities said that the driver of the box truck, a 53-year-old Las Vegas man, remained at the scene. Impairment was not suspected. He was not injured.

The Clark County coroner’s office hadn’t yet released the woman’s name. The crash remained under investigation by Metro.
