Recycling plan for bus stops features multiple bins
Recycling is getting easier on Las Vegas streets thanks to a new partnership between the city, the Regional Transportation Commission, Republic Services and Creative Outdoor Advertising.
On Thursday the groups announced a plan to post new trash and recycling bins at bus stops throughout the city.
The bins, with two drops for recyclables and one for trash, are expected to increase the amount of waste that gets recycled and help keep buses and bus stops cleaner.
They’re paid for through the partnership with Creative Outdoor Advertising, which will sell space to advertisers for $100 to $200 per month and share an estimated 15 percent of the revenue with the city.
The Regional Transportation Commission benefits by having cleaner bus stops. Republic Services has agreed to collect the trash and recyclables for processing.
Bill Schwartz, municipal affairs manager for Creative, presented Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman a check for $37,000 that represents the first payment to the city under the plan.
Officials at the announcement said they expect to have about 150 of the bins in place soon and eventually increase the number to 400.
