Son of former Metro officer convicted in slaying
The son of a former Metro officer married to former Broadway star Pia Zadora was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday.
Prosecutors said Michael Jeffries Jr., who faces 20 years to life in prison, shot his longtime friend, Eric Allen Gore, in the heart during a quarrel after a party in Oct. 2011.
The shooting occurred at Jeffries’ home in the 8700 block of Don Horton Avenue, near state Route 160 and Durango Drive.
Jeffries called 911 and reported the shooting to police. Upon arrival, investigators saw a .45-caliber handgun on a kitchen counter and heard Jeffries say: “I just shot my friend. I just shot my (expletive) friend,” according to police.
While Jeffries was out on bail, his father, an off-duty Las Vegas police officer at the time, and Zadora were involved in a domestic dispute.
Zadora was arrested in June 2013 on charges she scratched and choked her autistic son, which resulted a SWAT standoff after her son called police.
According to his wife’s arrest report, officer Michael Jeffries Sr. refused to come to the door when patrol officers from his department arrived his home to investigate a domestic dispute. He had also reportedly quarreled with his son, who was inside the home at the time, according to police, but neither were charged.
The case against Zadora was ultimately dismissed, according to court records.
