Stolen cab ends up in fiery crash

Someone stole a cab from its driver in downtown Las Vegas on Wednesday night, then crashed the cab in a fiery rollover near the Cheyenne off-ramp from Interstate 15, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

The crash happened just before 10:30 p.m. and the driver suffered critical injuries, Metro Lt. Michael Mauntel said.

Traffic in the area of the off-ramp between Cheyenne’s Losee Road and Civic Center Drive intersections was shut down immediately afterward as police investigated. It wasn’t expected to reopen for a few hours.

It was unclear whether cab’s original driver was injured during the initial downtown confrontation.
