Suspect in shuttle-bus crash to appear in court Monday

The man officials say is responsible for a shuttle-bus crash that sent 12 people to area hospitals Saturday is expected in court Monday.
Orlando Gunn, 51, of Henderson, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence. The night of the crash, Gunn was the only person who didn’t require hospitalization after his black Toyota Celica swerved, then caused a wreck that sent his car and a shuttle bus carying nine people shooting across all lanes of Interstate 15 just before 8 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol spokeswoman Chelsea Stuenkel said.
Before the crash, the Toyota was in the far left lane and the shuttle bus — a silver 2014 Mercedes Sprinter commercial van — was next to Gunn’s car on the right, headed northbound on I-15. But just before the D Street exit, the Toyota “overcorrected” and spun clockwise, slamming into the front of the shuttle bus, Stuenkel said.
The impact sent both vehicles careening toward the road’s right shoulder, where the van flipped and hit several reflective pylons before coming to a rest on its left side. Seconds later, the van was hit again when Gunn’s Toyota plowed into a concrete barrier and ricocheted into it.
The three people inside the Toyota besides Gunn and all nine people in the shuttle bus were taken to either University Medical Center or Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center after the crash, Stuenkel said. Two women who were in the shuttle bus remain in critical condition.
Gunn is booked at the Clark County Detention Center and faces one count each of failing to maintain a lane, having an open container in his vehicle and failing to wear a seatbelt along with 10 counts of felony DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm, jail records show. His bail is set at $153,000.
