Northbound U.S. Highway 95 at Cheyenne Avenue reopened Thursday morning after a motorcycle accident closed the freeway for about three hours, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
First responders were called to the scene of a motorcycle accident shortly before 5 a.m. A speeding motorcyclist crashed into an SUV driven by an off-duty Metro corrections officer heading home, NHP trooper Loy Hixson said.
Another vehicle, whose driver was trying to avoid the initial accident, was struck by a vehicle shortly after, Hixson said. There were no injuries reported in that crash.
The 29-year-old motorcyclist from Las Vegas was speeding and suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, Hixson said.
The man was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, but was expected to survive, Hixson said.
