An 80-year-old woman died Thursday after she was struck by a pickup near a central valley drug store.
Officers were called to a Walgreens parking lot at 6401 W. Charleston Blvd., near South Torrey Pines Drive, about 3:30 p.m.
The woman was walking on a sidewalk in front of the north parking lot exit when she was hit by a 1996 GMC Sierra that was turning right onto Charleston, police said.
The woman was forced to the ground and died on the scene. Her identity will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office after her family has been notified.
The driver of the truck, a 28-year-old man, stayed at the scene, police said.
This is the 96th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2015.
Charleston was closed between Torrey Pines and Community College Drive while detectives processed the scene. This collision remains under investigation by Metro’s Accident Investigation Section.
