Woman dead after being struck by car in Henderson

A 72-year-old Henderson woman is dead after a Saturday evening auto-pedestrian accident in the southeast valley, according to Henderson police.

Janice Thelma Hutchison was crossing Green Valley Parkway, south of Sunset Road, about 6:45 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by a 2005 Hyundai sedan traveling southbound on Green Valley Parkway, Henderson police spokeswoman Kathleen Richards wrote in a Saturday night press release.

Hutchison was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition. She died of her injuries later that night, Richards said just after 11 p.m. Saturday.

Police originally said Hutchison was 74. The Clark County coroner’s office identified Hutchison Sunday and said she was 72.

The 88-year-old driver of the Hyundai was not injured in the crash, according to the release.

Preliminary investigation indicates that neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash. Witnesses told Henderson police that the woman may have been crossing against the traffic signal. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, the release said.

Two southbound lanes of Green Valley Parkway were closed for about three hours Saturday night while police investigated.

This was the eleventh traffic-related death in Henderson this year, Richards said.
