A woman was found dead inside a burning Las Vegas home Wednesday afternoon.
Clark County firefighters responded at about noon to a report of a house fire at 4943 Lana Drive, near the intersection of South Nellis Boulevard and East Harmon Avenue, the department wrote in a statement. Fire crews encountered a “high-level structure fire” at the single-story home.
Responders entered the burning structure “without backup” to search for an occupant thought to be trapped inside, the department said. During the search, they found a body, Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan wrote in the statement. Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, the department said.
The body was a woman’s, Deputy Fire Chief Jon Klassen said about 6 p.m. Wednesday. He didn’t know her age and said the Clark County coroner’s office will identify her.
Klassen also said “there were pets involved” in the blaze, but couldn’t say what kind of pets or whether any of them died or were injured.
The fire’s cause and origin is under investigation, he said.
