Pedestrian struck by vehicle on the Strip on Tuesday
A North Las Vegas man suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday after being hit by a vehicle on the Strip, forcing a section of the road to be closed, police said.
The crash occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of South Las Vegas Boulevard and West Reno Avenue. The 36-year-old man was taken to University Medical Center with substantial injuries and was in critical condition.
He was hit by a 2015 Ford Escape that was heading north on Las Vegas Boulevard approaching the intersection on a green light. The pedestrian was struck while walking in the crosswalk against a “don’t walk” signal, according to a Metropolitan Police Department press release.
Impairment was not considered a factor in the crash, according to Metro Lt. Greg Phenis.
He said no one else was injured and that northbound lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard were closed at West Reno Avenue.
