Fatal rollover crash kills man on Pahrump Valley Highway
A fatal crash shut down Pahrump Valley Highway outside of Pahrump on Christmas Eve.
According to a preliminary Nevada Highway Patrol investigation, a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban failed to maintain its lane, and, for unknown reasons, left the roadway and entered a dirt rock center median. The SUV then rotated, rolled over and re-entered the northbound travel lane on the highway, also known as state Route 160, around 7:13 p.m. on Dec. 24.
The driver, 64-year-old David Gregory Roberts, of Pahrump, was ejected from the SUV when it overturned, and died in the crash.
The SUV eventually came to a stop on the shoulder of state Route 160, facing northeast, Highway Patrol said.
Rock debris was also thrown during the crash into the southbound lanes and struck a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox.
All lanes were closed on the highway at Pinion Drive for several hours, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
An investigation into the crash by the Nevada State Police Highway Patrol – Traffic Homicide Unit is ongoing.
