BASEBALL: Campbell’s suicide squeeze lifts Roadrunners by Cowboys

Rylee Campbell’s one-out suicide squeeze with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday brought home Sebastian Fitzgerald and gave Tech’s baseball team a 6-5 win over Chaparral at Arroyo Grande Sports Complex.

Fitzgerald was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Jalen Birch went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Tech. Chandler Gehring added two hits and two runs for the Roadrunners.

Sky Espinosa was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for Chaparral, and starting pitcher Mark O’Connor was 3-for-3 with two runs and struck out 16 in five innings for the Cowboys.

Shadow Ridge 4, Palo Verde 3 — At Palo Verde, Tyler Burton singled home Jakob Chambers with one out in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and give the Mustangs the win over the Panthers.

Burton was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI to lead the Mustangs, who trailed 3-1 before scoring twice in the top of the sixth.

Kolby Millner went 2-for-4 with a run for Shadow Ridge, and Chris Opolka threw two scoreless innings of relief to get the win.

J.D. Brooks was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Palo Verde. Yodai Nakamura was 3-for-3 with a double, and teammate Cobi Fiechtner was 2-for-4 with a run for the Panthers.

Basic 15, Durango 0 — At Durango, Logan Green came within an out of a perfect game as the Wolves routed the Trailblazers.

Durango reached on an error with two outs in the fifth to break up the perfect game, and followed that with an infield single to end the no-hitter. Green allowed another single before Cory Wills came on to get the final out.

Green struck out five in 4 2/3 innings. Wills was 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, three runs and an RBI to help power the offense.

Ryne Nelson went 3-for-4 with a homer, two runs and two RBIs, and Josh McLean was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Basic. Jack Wold was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI for the Wolves, and teammate David Huddleson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Silverado 5, Las Vegas 4 — At Silverado, the Skyhawks scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to break a 4-4 tie en route to the win over the Wildcats.

Chase Cortez went 2-for-3 with a run for Silverado, which scored four runs in the bottom of the first.

Kevin Pindel threw 1 2/3 hitless innings with two strikeouts and one walk to get the win.

Las Vegas’ Noah Ponce went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Antonio Gaxiola was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Wildcats.

Las Vegas’ Trey Chauncey came on with two on and no out in the first with his team already down 4-0. He got out of the jam and allowed the unearned run on three hits in six innings.

Del Sol 6, Virgin Valley 4 — At Virgin Valley, Ricky Trujillo went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and tossed a four-hitter to earn the win as the Dragons edged the Bulldogs.

The Dragons scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie, and Trujillo held Virgin Valley scoreless in the bottom of the frame for the win.

Jorge Costa had an RBI single for the Bulldogs.

Canyon Springs 7, Cheyenne 6 — At Cheyenne, Jordan Gainey went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Carlos Alcala was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to help the Pioneers edge the Desert Shields.

Zack Gardner had five strikeouts in four innings of scoreless relief for Canyon Springs.

Canyon Springs scored six runs in the top of the second to break a 1-1 tie. Titus Quintanilla had a double and three RBIs, and Angelo Hallenback hit a triple for Cheyenne.

Bishop Gorman 14, Legacy 4 — At Legacy, Austin Cram went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs and four RBIs to help the Gaels to the six-inning victory over the Longhorns.

Beau Capanna was 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run, four runs and two RBIs, and Grant Robbins went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs for Gorman.

Austin Wells was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Gaels.

Forrest Grevelis and Jordan Brown each had a double and two RBIs for Legacy.

Sunrise Mountain 11, Desert Pines 5 — At Desert Pines, Jesus Millan was 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs, and the Miners used a seven-run first inning to defeat the Jaguars.

Andy Mojena supplied two hits, a run and two RBIs for Sunrise Mountain. Donovan Hansen and William Angellotti each added two hits and an RBI for the Miners.

Silverios Milian went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Tony Fields and Traemaine Savea each added two hits for Desert Pines.

Boulder City 11, Moapa Valley 1 — At Boulder City, Austin Shepard was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs to lead the Eagles to the five-inning win over the Pirates.

Patrick Garvin went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Nolan Desantis, Steve Wagner, Zach Murphy and Seth Kerrmode each scored two runs for Boulder City, which scored five times in the fifth.

Nick Giunta went the distance, allowing no earned runs on three hits, to get the win.

J.R. Redd was 2-for-3 for Moapa Valley.

Liberty 27, Valley 3 — At Valley, Lucas Bogues was 5-for-5 with five runs and two RBIs, and Jack Hale went 4-for-5 with a double and five RBIs to lead the Patriots to a five-inning rout of the Vikings.

Al Gourrier was 4-for-6 with three runs, two stolen bases and an RBI, and Jonny Gilleres had a triple and two RBIs for Liberty. The Patriots had 28 hits.

Jacob Cruz was 1-for-2 with two runs for Valley.
