Lincoln County baseball sweeps White Pine, grabs Southern League’s top seed

Mike Wood went 3-for-4 with four runs and three RBIs in the opener and 1-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs in the nightcap Saturday to help host Lincoln County’s baseball team secure the No. 1 seed for the Division III Southern League tournament with a sweep of White Pine.

The Lynx won the opener 19-0 and took the second game 11-1, both in five innings.

In the first game, Derek Shumway and Christian Florence combined on a one-hitter for Lincoln County. McClain O’Connor was 2-for-3 with a double, and Jordan Harrington went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Lynx. Paul Boag was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for Lincoln County.

In the finale, Kevin Mathews tossed a two-hitter and struck out five for the Lynx. O’Connor was 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs and an RBI, and Shumway went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI. Charlie Scott was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Lincoln County.
