Will Southern Nevada have repeat of 2016 MLB Draft?
As a few local players sit back and await their fate of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft, let’s take a look back on last year’s draft — one which had 12 Southern Nevada players selected.
Former College of Southern Nevada ace Mikey York, a Basic High graduate, was the first of eight locals taken. The 6-foot-2-inch right-hander was picked in the fifth round (150th overall) by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Faith Lutheran’s Zack Trageton was the first high school selection. The 6-3 right-hander went in the sixth round — 30 picks after York — to the Rays.
The first two rounds of the 2017 MLB Draft will be live on MLB Network & MLB.com, beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday.
The Minnesota Twins have the first overall pick.
