1A BOYS HONORS: Panther boys rewarded for superb regular season
Pahranagat Valley’s boys basketball team rolled to an undefeated regular season in the Class 1A Southern League, winning all eight of its league games by an average of 29.3 points before winning the league tournament title.
On the cusp of Friday’s state semifinal, the Panthers were rewarded for their superb season.
Pahranagat Valley received the top two awards in league honors as voted by coaches, in addition to having five players named to the all-league first or second teams.
Senior point guard Cody Hosier was named league Most Valuable Player.
Hosier, who also was named league MVP in football as a quarterback and cornerback on the Panthers’ state championship team, led Pahranagat Valley in scoring in six of eight league wins this season.
Brian Higbee was named Coach of the Year.
Sophomore guard Tyler Higbee, senior forward Jeremy Roemer and senior guard Kale Leavitt received first-team all-league honors to add to the Panthers’ hardware.
Junior swingman Kade Wadsworth and junior post Derek Hansen were named to the second team.
Pahranagat Valley (24-4) begins pursuit of its second consecutive 1A state title with a semifinal against Smith Valley at 8 p.m. Friday at Arbor View. The state title game is set for 7:45 p.m. Saturday at the Orleans Arena.
The Panthers are gunning for their first repeat state championship since 1981.
First-team all-league honors also went to Beatty guard Ramiro Hernandez and forward Anthony Turner, Round Mountain forward Serjio Chavez and Tonopah forward Eric Reynoso.
