Here is a look at some of the week’s top high school sports events.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Monday — Cheyenne at Cimarron-Memorial, 6:30 p.m.

The Desert Shields are the area’s top-ranked Class 3A team, and they travel to take on the Spartans, who look like one of the favorites in the Northwest League.

Tuesday —Foothill at Desert Pines, 6:30 p.m.

Marvin Coleman is one of the area’s top all-around players, and he will lead the Falcons on the road in this one. Foothill is ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, while the Jaguars are No. 2 in Class 3A.

Wednesday — Arbor View at Faith Lutheran, 6:30 p.m.

Both teams are coming off tournament championships, and this matchup could be a key early test in a crowded Northwest League.

Friday — Liberty at Clark, 6:30 p.m.

The Patriots’ Julian Strawther is considered one of the top players in the nation in the sophomore class. How will he fare against the top-ranked Chargers?

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Tuesday — Bishop Gorman at Spring Valley, 5 p.m.

These teams split their two regular-season meetings last season by a combined 11 points, and this one should be equally as tight with playoff-seeding implications. Third-ranked Spring Valley, and seniors Essence Booker and Kayla Harris, will host the No. 5 Gaels, who returned nine letter winners and three starters from last season.

Tuesday — Palo Verde at Green Valley, 5 p.m.

The seventh-ranked Gators must find a way to stop Palo Verde’s Ariana Davis, who averaged 11.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals last season, to win this interconference battle. Samara Miller could be a double-double machine for Green Valley this season.

Wednesday — Arbor View at Faith Lutheran, 5 p.m.

Kayla Proctor is a force in the post, and the Crusaders would love to get a jump-start in league play with a home win here. Arbor View counters with its own big in Autumn Westmoreland, and senior Alaysia Reed, who is one of the league’s top scorers.

Wednesday — Legacy at Cimarron-Memorial, 5 p.m.

After Centennial, the Northwest League is up for grabs. These two teams — ranked ninth and 10th, respectively — are vying for the No. 2 seed. The Longhorns have strong guard play with C’Aree Stevenson, Rory Carter and Taeha Pankey.

Friday — Cimarron-Memorial at Arbor View, 5 p.m.

The Spartans returned four starters from a season ago, and this game will provide clarity in arguably the deepest league in Southern Nevada.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Thursday — Virgin Valley at Cimarron-Memorial, 4:30 p.m.

Last year’s Class 3A state runner-up Bulldogs are on the road against the defending Class 4A state champs.

Centennial and Virgin Valley, both off to strong starts this season, head up north for Reno’s tournament

Saturday — Patriot Duals at Liberty, 9 a.m.

The top in-state tournament of the week, Liberty hosts 16 other local teams, as well as one from Oregon.
