Bishop Gorman’s Sheryl Krmpotich resigns after 18 seasons
Longtime Bishop Gorman girls basketball coach Sheryl Krmpotich is resigning from her position, the school announced Tuesday.
Krmpotich led the Gaels to four state championships (2006, 2007, 2008, 2010) and five state runner-up finishes in 18 years, and compiled a 477-89 record.
“It was an honor to be part of a program that has not only been recognized in the state of Nevada, but nationally as well,” Krmpotich said in a statement. “Being the head coach of the women’s basketball program at Bishop Gorman High School has been personally and professionally gratifying on many levels. I truly appreciate the players, parents and the Bishop Gorman family who supported me unconditionally throughout the years.”
Krmpotich sent 39 players to college basketball, including 28 to the Division I level, and coached two McDonald’s All Americans.
The Gaels finished 29-2 last season and were eliminated by Centennial — the eventual state champion — in the Sunset Region final, 71-56. Gorman lost three Division I players to graduation in Megan Jacobs (Utah), Raychel Stanley (Loyola Marymount) and Madison Washington (Oregon State).
Krmpotich, who also coached in the Jordan Brand High School Girls All-American game, will continue in her teaching position at Gorman.
“We are grateful to Coach K for her commitment to Bishop Gorman Women’s Basketball,” athletic director Sally Nieman said in the statement. “Under her leadership the program experienced tremendous growth and success, putting the Lady Gaels on the map for women’s basketball.”
A replacement has not been announced.
