Spring Valley’s football team only managed points in one quarter and gained just 109 yards of offense, but held on for a 13-6 road win against Desert Oasis on Friday.

After a sloppy first half from both teams, Marquelle Diggs returned a punt 60 yards in the third quarter to put Spring Valley (5-3, 3-2) on the board first. Later in the quarter, Kash Jenkins scored the Grizzlies’ second touchdown on an 8-yard run.

Desert Oasis offense started to click midway through the fourth quarter. With 7:50 remaining, Christian Vaughn capped off a seven-play, 79-yard Diamondbacks drive with a 3-yard TD run to make it 13-6.

In the game’s final minutes, Desert Oasis (0-8, 0-5) drove to the Grizzlies’ 39 yard line and seemed poised to make a comeback. But Spring Valley’s Clark Genneken recovered a fumble with 1:33 remaining to secure the victory.

The Grizzlies’ defense nabbed two interceptions and four fumble recoveries on the day.
