SOFTBALL: Palo Verde’s Williams keys eighth inning rally to top Coronado

Rachel Williams’ three-run home run keyed a five-run top of the eighth inning Friday and lifted Palo Verde’s softball team to a 5-3, eight-inning win over Coronado in the Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Ariz.

Breanna Beatty was 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Panthers, who had just six hits.

Jaiden Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Coronado, whose rally in the bottom of the eighth fell short. Jillian James and Katie Dawson each went 2-for-4 for the Cougars.

Coronado 8, Mingus (Ariz.) 1 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Basia Query went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs as the Cougars topped Mingus in five innings in the Tournament of Champions.

Taylor Okamura was 2-for-3, and Nicole Hardy went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Coronado.

Danielle Amato tossed a three-hitter for the Cougars.

Centennial 12, Kofa (Ariz.) 2 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Savannah Horvath belted two home runs and had four RBIs to help the Bulldogs rout Kofa in four innings in the Tournament of Champions.

Sonja Lawrence went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and Heather Bowen homered, doubled and had four RBIs for Centennial.

Centennial 7, Valencia (Calif.) 3 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Bowen homered in her third consecutive game as the Bulldogs used a six-run first inning to top Valencia in the Tournament of Champions.

Lauren Stroman added a three-run home run for the Bulldogs, who got two hits apiece from Bowen, Horvath, Ashley Ross and Kara Simpson.

Valencia (Calif.) 15, Foothill 2 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Wendy Cardinal belted two home runs to lead Valencia by the Falcons in four innings in the Tournament of Champions.

RaeAnn Brems was 2-for-2, and Alexia Campbell hit a two-run homer for Foothill.

Foothill 9, Farmington (N.M.) 8 — At Bullhead City, Ariz., Hannah Stevens’ one-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning plated Jordan Corn with the winning run as the Falcons nipped Farmington in the Tournament of Champions.

Daryan Meade went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two runs and four RBIs for Foothill.

Legacy 9, Pahrump Valley 1 — At Needles, Calif., Alyssa Sotelo went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to help the Longhorns top the Trojans in four innings in the Colorado River Invitational.

Kaila Haslem was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Legacy, which got a three-hitter from pitcher Haley Pedersen.

Legacy 9, Elko 2 — At Needles, Calif., Kiani Elia-Mendiola was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Longhorns to the five-inning win over the Indians in the Colorado River Invitational.

Sotelo was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Legacy, which led 8-0 after two innings.

Pedersen went the distance, allowing one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts, to get the win.

Bishop Gorman 12, Franklin (Texas) 2 — At Gorman, Shelby Estocado went 2-for-3 with a home run as the Gaels routed Franklin in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Bailey Zavala was 2-for-2 with a double, and Casey Nelson went 2-for-2 for Gorman.

Clovis (Calif.) 5, Bishop Gorman 0 — At Gorman, Clovis used a three-run third inning to top the Gaels in a four-inning game in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Bonanza 4, Highland (Calif.) 1 — At Bakersfield, Calif., Sarah Selbach-Fetting tossed a five-inning two-hitter to lead the Bengals by Highland in the Mira Monte Lions Invitational.

Bonanza 9, Mira Monte (Calif.) 6 — At Bakersfield, Calif., Kayla Sylvester and Ashlee McKenna each had two hits to lead the Bengals by the Lions in the Mira Monte Lions Invitational.

Tulare Western (Calif.) 12, Bonanza 1 — At Bakersfield, Calif., the Bengals managed just two hits in a loss to Tulare Western in the Mira Monte Lions Invitational.

Caitlyn Lloyd had a home run for Bonanza.

Durango 6, Kern Valley (Calif.) 0 — At Bakersfield, Calif., Dallas Boyce went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI as the Trailblazers shut out the Broncs in the Mira Monte Lions Invitational.

Boyce also pitched a one-hitter for Durango, and teammate Kaitlyn O’Hearn added three singles and three RBIs.

Durango 8, West (Calif.) 6 — At Bakersfield, Calif., Boyce had a home run, double and three RBIs to lift the Trailblazers over the Warriors in the Mira Monte Lions Invitational.

Tori Ray was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Durango, which led 8-2 after four innings.

Durango 15, Arvin (Calif.) 0 — At Bakersfield, Calif., Cheyanne Haas went 3-for-3 with an RBI to help the Trailblazers dominate the Bears in three innings in the Mira Monte Lions Invitational.

Mallory Connolly added two RBIs for Durango, which got another one-hitter from Boyce.

Eldorado 16, Western 0 — At Western, Kristie Thomas tossed a five-inning shutout to lead the Sundevils by the Warriors.

Madalyn Bonilla went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Kerrigan Holman was 4-for-4 with two RBIs for the Sundevils.

Brook Ortiz was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, and Thomas went 2-for-4 with a triple for Eldorado.

Kassidy Pahia was 2-for-2 with a double for Western.

Tech 28, Del Sol 6 — At Anthem Hills Park, Ashley Ramsey went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and the Roadrunners used a 14-run first inning to rout the Dragons in a five-inning game.

Jasmine Ramos was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, and Patrice Jurisprudencia was 2-for-5 with three RBIs for Tech. Kimmie Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs for Tech.
