BOYS TENNIS: Singles sweep helps Diamondbacks secure playoff spot

Ben Gajardo, Bryce Tacker and Aaron Tan each went 3-0 in singles Friday as Desert Oasis’ boys tennis team clinched a spot in the Sunset Region playoffs with a 10-8 win at Cimarron-Memorial.

The Diamondbacks moved into a tie for third place with Bonanza and won the tiebreaker to claim the Southwest League’s No. 3 seed.

The doubles teams of Nate Starlin and Royce Hightower, and Xan Vital and Kennedy Alexander each went 3-0 for the Spartans.

Bishop Gorman 12, Bonanza 6 — At Bonanza, Owen Rosebeck and Josh Weismann went 2-1 in doubles to help the Gaels defeat the Bengals.

Bonanza’s Jacob Mabey and Andy Stephenson finished 2-1 in doubles.

Centennial 14, Legacy 4 — At Centennial, Raul Saucedo and Allen Fleegle each went 2-0 in singles to lead the Bulldogs past the Longhorns.

Parker McDonough and Ricky Koplow were 2-0 in doubles for Centennial.

Virgin Valley 10, Chaparral 8 — At Mesquite, Jacob Mikkelsen and Nathan Hughes each went 3-0 in singles to lead the Bulldogs past the Cowboys.

Chaparral’s doubles teams of Tyler Crone and Brandon Scott, and Mario Gonzalez and Ernesto Hernandez each went 3-0.

Arbor View 11, Durango 7 — At Arbor View, the doubles teams of Garrett DeMille and Dustin Leavitt, and Derek Rouse and Travis Norland each went 3-0 to lead the Aggies by the Trailblazers in a match that was suspended twice by rain on Sept. 9 and again by darkness on Sept. 24.

Marc Viernes was 3-0 in singles for Durango.

Clark 12, Cheyenne 0 — At Clark, the Chargers won by forfeit.

Tech 12, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Roadrunners won by forfeit.

Moapa Valley 12, Boulder City 0 — At Overton, the Pirates won by forfeit.

Western at Mojave — At Mojave, the Warriors and Rattlers both forfeited the match as neither team had the requisite six players.
