2A HONORS: Meadows’ Hall, Lake Mead’s Newton share MVP honors
The Meadows senior setter Vanessa Hall and Lake Mead senior outside hitter Ashley Newton shared Most Valuable Player honors on the Class 2A All-Southern League volleyball team.
Both players helped their teams advance to the state semifinals. The Meadows fell to Whittell in one semifinal, and Lake Mead — in its debut year in Class 2A — lost to Yerington in the other.
Calvary Chapel junior Brettani Davis was named the league’s defensive player of the year after helping the Lions to a third-place finish in the league.
Eight other players — The Meadows’ Kathryn Chakmak and Sinead Lopez, Lake Mead’s Heather Hillenbrand and Anny Liston, Calvary Chapel’s Bri Ridley, Lincoln County’s Kelbee Cheeney, Needles’ Holly Laswell, and Agassi Prep’s N’Dea Cottrell — were named to the first team.
Stephanie Heller, who led The Meadows to a 14-0 record in league play, was the league’s coach of the year.
