Carson River rafting, kayaking facilities open
CARSON CITY — A stretch of the Carson River in Northern Nevada is the state’s newest rafting and kayaking whitewater opportunity, with the addition of a launch ramp in Carson City.
Carson City and Dayton officials marked the opening Saturday with a ceremony at the Morgan Mill Road access point.
The facility south of U.S. Highway 50 East includes paved parking, picnic tables and a restroom.
It provides entry to a 9.3-mile river float through a scenic canyon with historic relics of Comstock gold mining to a take-out area at Santa Maria Ranch River Park in Dayton.
The river features class II and class III whitewater rapids along a 12.6-mile route following the Carson River Aquatic Trail, designated in 2007.
