Donation kettle stolen from visually impaired Salvation Army worker
A Salvation Army kettle was stolen in a snatch and grab in front of a northwest valley Smith’s grocery store Wednesday afternoon.
The kettle worker at the Smith’s at Cheyenne Road and Rainbow Boulevard, who is blind in one eye and uses a walker, heard the chain of the kettle rattle and the clip unhook. When he reached for the kettle, his hand was slapped away and he heard the person run off.
The worker told his supervisor “Lieutenant, I’m so sorry, but I couldn’t chase him.”
“We’ve never had this happen before,” said Salvation Army spokeswoman Leslee Rogers, who added that the person likely got away with between $175 and $200.
After the incident, Smith’s donated $1,000 to the Salvation Army, Rogers said.
