Dragsters racing to town

The Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway starts Thursday with Sportsman practice and qualifying, and the pros move in for two qualifying sessions Friday and two more Saturday before Sunday’s championship eliminations.

National champ Justin Lamb, a UNLV student, will compete in Super Gas and Comp Eliminator, while Boulder City’s Duane Shields will be racing in Top Alcohol Dragster.

THURSDAY, Oct. 29:
5:30 p.m. – John Force (Ford Country, 280 N. Gibson, North Las Vegas), Ashley Force (Team Ford, 5445 Drexel Rd., Las Vegas), and Robert Hight and Mike Neff (Friendly Ford, 660 N Decatur Blvd., Las Vegas).

More racing at Bullring
The dragstrip won’t be the only LVMS track racing this weekend. The Bullring will host a spooky version of Speedfest on Saturday night.

The a 50-lap SMRA Supermodifieds race will highlight the show with other races for USAC Western States Midgets, SRL Southwest Tour Series, Bombers, Legends Cars and Bandoleros.

All children under 12 in costume will be admitted free and fans of all ages are encouraged to meet their favorite drivers during a free autograph and trick-or-treat session that starts at 5:30 p.m.

An added Halloween treat will be Ed “The Outlaw” Jones and his Jelly Belly-sponsored wheelstander.

Free candy and prizes will be offered.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing at 6:40 p.m.
