Fireworks approved for reservation beach areas

RENO — The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe has approved the use of fireworks for the first time on some parts of its reservation, about 30 miles northeast of Reno.

Tribal events manager Scott Carey told the Reno Gazette-Journal that people set them off anyway, and local law officers had a difficult time regulating them. He said a 7.5 percent surcharge will help raise money for tribal programs.

The fireworks are available to customers 18 and older at the I-80 Smokeshop in Wadsworth and at the Nixon store.

They’ll receive a permit to only shoot them off at Indian Head Beach, Rawhide Beach and Blockhouse Beach.
