GAME NIGHT NOTES 3/23/08

Tonight the Wranglers and RoadRunners meet for the tenth time this season and the 28th meeting overall. Las Vegas is 8-0-1 against Phoenix this season and 22-2-3 all-time. The Wranglers recently took two out of three from West Division leader — Alaska, including Friday night"s come from behind 4-3 win. Phoenix is coming off a 2-0 loss at home to Fresno on Thursday night. Las Vegas is 22-5-6 at home this season and 7-1-2 in the last ten games played overall. Phoenix is 9-16-6 on the road this year and 4-4-2 in the last ten games played.

Last Time Out — Friday"s 7,427 3rd Highest Crowd in Team History
Las Vegas, NV — The Las Vegas Wranglers defeated the Alaska Aces 4-3 on Friday night in front of 7,427 fans at the Orleans Arena. Forward Aki Seitsonen completed his first career hat trick, by scoring a shorthanded and game-winning goal with 16-seconds remaining to lift Las Vegas over Alaska. Forward Peter Ferraro also scored in the win. Goalie Daniel Manzato stopped 20 of 23 Aces shots, improving to 23-5-6. Alaska"s Chris Beckford-Tseu had a shutout string of 107:30 ended in the loss, stopping 24 of 28 Wranglers shots. Friday night"s attendance of 7,427 is the third highest in team history, trailing only two sellouts of 7,773.

Wranglers Roundup
The Wranglers magic number to clinch the National Conference and Pacific Division sits at five. A Las Vegas victory tonight would lower the number magic number to three. Las Vegas leads Fresno by 10 points. The Falcons lost at home to Bakersfield 3-0. The Condors will host Fresno on Monday night before hosting Las Vegas on Friday. The Falcons have seven games remaining, including four at Save Mart Center. Right wing Peter Ferraro (33 goals) is one goal away from tying the team record for most goals in one season. Center Matt Dzieduszycki owns the team record after scoring 34 goals in 68 games during the 2005-06 season. Las Vegas has six games remaining on the season with three of them at home. In order for the Wranglers to become the only team in ECHL history with three straight 100-point seasons, they must earn four points out of a possible 12 (.333 winning percentage). Las Vegas is 22-10-8 over the last 39 games. The Wranglers are 2-5 in overtimes and 4-7 in shootouts this season.

Roster Report — Miller and Jorgensen Added
Las Vegas, NV — The Las Vegas Wranglers announced on Thursday the signing of rookie defenseman Jim Jorgensen. The team announced Tuesday the signing of rookie forward Adam Miller.

Jorgensen joins the Wranglers after four seasons at Ferris State University. For his college career, the Sault Ste. Marie native posted 30 assists and 38 points in 114 games. The 6-foot, 200-pounder defender also racked up 54 penalty minutes. As a sophomore in 2005-06, Jorgensen set collegiate highs and was the team"s leading scorer among defensemen with 15 assists and 16 points in 32 games.

Miller made his pro debut Tuesday against the Aces after wrapping up a four-year stint at Ferris State University. In 2007-08, Miller"s senior season, the forward finished second on the team with 17 assists, 25 points and 104 shots on net in 36 games played. The 6-foot, 185-pound center finished his college career with 30 goals and 47 assists for 77 points in 146 NCAA contests. Miller picked up his first pro point with an assist on Friday night.

Defensemen Gerry Burke, Brad Cole and Gord Baldwin remain in the AHL with Quad City. Rookie center Curtis Fraser remains with the AHL"s San Antonio Rampage. Defenseman Tyson Strachan still is in the American Hockey League with the Peoria Rivermen. Defenseman Jason Jozsa also remains on recall to Grand Rapids of the AHL. Center Tyler Mosienko remains with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL. Center Chris Ferraro, defenseman Sean Owens and left wing Shawn Limpright all remain on the injured reserve. Owens has been skating with the team for over a week and is expected to return soon. Limpright remains out until late April. Ferraro is out indefinitely.

Road Runners Report
Phoenix is deeply entrenched in a battle with Bakersfield and Stockton for the final two playoff spots in the National Conference. Bakersfield is two points behind Phoenix and Stockton with six games remaining. The RoadRunners and Thunder each have seven games remaining (counting today). Phoenix is currently the eighth seed, setting up a possible first-round match up with Las Vegas, and repeat of the 2007 first-round playoff series.

Center Daniel Sisca leads the team in scoring with 41 assists and 59 points in 64 games played. Former Wrangler, Sean O"Connor leads the team with 24 goals in 56 games played. O"Connor played in Las Vegas from 2005-07. Rookie All-Star Peder Skinner is second on the team with 29 assists and 51 points in 65 games played. Dusty Jamieson has five goals and seven assists for 12 points in only ten games with the RoadRunners. Phoenix has allowed eight goals in the last five games (1.60 goals against average). The RoadRunners have not allowed a power-play goal in the last five games, killing of 28 straight penalties.

Goalies Taylor Dakers and Dave McKee split time between the pipes for Phoenix. Dakers was assigned by the Worchester Sharks of the AHL in late February. In eight starts, Dakers is 4-2-2 with a 1.97 goals against average and a .943 save percentage. McKee is 6-11-4 with a 3.92 goals against average and a .894 save percentage.
