The Nevada Supreme Court on Friday night set a hearing date for when a term limits issue will be heard. It also vacated a previous date set on ballot issues.

The justices ruled that they will hear oral arguments on July 1 on whether term limits apply to people elected to office in the 1996 elections. The challenges affect Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, D-Las Vegas, and Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury, among other candidates.

The Supreme Court also vacated a July 1 date to hear arguments in a case involving two initiative petitions. The court ruled that an upcoming district court hearing could influence any possible Supreme Court actions.

At issue is a pair of petitions aimed at reallocating “excess” Las Vegas convention authority revenue to other uses, including education.
