Henderson approves construction of 100-acre park

The Henderson City Council on Tuesday night approved the funding and construction of a 100-acre park featuring a 20-acre pond filled by seeping groundwater and storm runoff on land that once was a toxic gravel pit.

Tuesday’s 5-0 vote was a mere formality toward moving forward on plans for Cornerstone Park, near Stephanie Street and Wigwam Parkway, more than six years after the plan was first brought forward.

The $11.3 million cost will be covered by funding provided by the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act, funding the city would have lost had the project not been approved.

The low bid came from North Las Vegas-based APCO Construction.
