Man gets prison term for threatening phone calls
A 54-year-old man was sentenced Friday to nearly four years in federal prison for making threatening phone calls from Las Vegas to the Social Security Administration, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
Leon Muhammad was sentenced to 46 months in prison and three years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Roger L. Hunt.
Muhammad had pleaded guilty in March to making threatening communications in interstate commerce, according to a U.S. attorney’s office news release.
A two-time felon, Muhammad made the calls in November and December after the Social Security Administration ended his retirement benefits. He made the calls from Las Vegas, where he was vacationing, the release said.
During calls to offices in Maryland, California and Washington, Muhammad said he would cause problems if he didn’t get his money, said he couldn’t go to the Las Vegas office because he was afraid he would hurt someone, and threatened to "go postal on you all," the release said.
Authorities arrested Muhammad on Dec. 17 in South Carolina.
