Justice center opens after suspicious package investigated
A suspicious package found near the Regional Justice Center Tuesday morning was deemed safe by investigators, Las Vegas police said.
Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Barbara Morgan said the package found about 8 a.m. at the Phoenix Building across the street from the justice center was deemed safe about 10:30 a.m.
Morgan said a man came forward and let authorities know the package was his and that he left it outside the building for someone to pick up, but that didn’t happen. Morgan wouldn’t say what the package was.
"We confirmed it was what he said it was," Morgan said. "It was not a bomb, it was nothing dangerous."
The Phoenix Building houses several district court rooms that are used for civil trials. The suspicious package was found outside of the building’s entrance and caused the justice center to be placed on lock down.
The ARMOR, a multi-agency hazardous material unit, was called to investigate.
Officials blocked off Third Street from Carson to Bridger avenues because of the scare.
