Las Vegas officer in shooting identified

The Las Vegas police officer involved in the Thursday shooting of a man with a pellet gun has been identified.

Michael Donovan, 30, shot 29-year-old Miguel Martinez about 1:30 a.m. near Charleston Boulevard and Bruce Street after Martinez brandished a pellet gun, police said.

The pellet gun Martinez brandished was a replica of a Colt .45 semi-automatic pistol, police said.

This was Donovan’s second officer-involved shooting in the past three years.

In March 2010, Donovan shot at 42-year-old Janine Renee McCullough after she accelerated her car at him in an attempt to avoid arrest for violating probation.

Donovan was not injured in Thursday’s shooting. Martinez was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Donovan has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an incident review.
