A hot spot from the still-burning Carpenter 1 Fire sends smoke into the sky on the south ridge of Kyle Canyon, just west of Griffith Peak, near Mount Charleston on Sunday. According to National Forest Service firefighters, the flare-up is burning an area surrounded by previously scorched forest. As a result, there is little threat of the flames spreading.
