Man arrested in shooting that led to school lockdowns

Bryan Mason

Las Vegas police have identified a suspect who was arrested in a shooting that resulted in lockdowns at two northeast valley elementary schools today.

Bryan Mason is facing charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the shooting, which happened after a dispute with several individuals, police said.

A second person, Dwight Kirkendolph, was charged with obstructing a police officer for his role in a standoff with SWAT officers outside a northeast valley apartment complex after the shooting.

The lockdowns at Manch and Lowman elementary schools were lifted at 5:40 p.m. The schools had been in lockdown since 3:15 p.m. because of the police activity in their northeast neighborhood, near Cheyenne Avenue and Nellis Boulevard and the main gate of Nellis Air Force Base, said Michael Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Clark County School District.

The schools occupy the same 4000 block of Lamont Street.
