2 children die after testing positive for E. Coli in Pacific Northwest
Investigators say they don’t expect to find the specific sources of fatal strains of E. coli that killed two children in the Pacific Northwest and left a Washington boy fighting for his life.
Dr. Paul Cieslak of the Oregon Health Authority said Thursday that investigators need at least twice as many cases to triangulate a source, which might be tainted food, lake water, or contact with livestock.
A 4-year-old girl from Lincoln County on the Oregon Coast died Monday after falling ill following a family gathering over Labor Day weekend. A 4-year-old boy at the gathering was in critical condition at a Tacoma, Washington, hospital.
Authorities say those cases are not related to a 3-year-old girl from northwest Washington who died from exposure to E. coli last week.
