Plane crashes in Alaska; 3 rescued, 2 missing

A small plane crashed Friday in Alaska, according to police, who received a call from someone who was on the flight.

The plane was carrying five occupants. The condition of the passengers was unknown, the Juneau Police Department said in a statement.

But CNN affiliate KTUU reported that the U.S. Coast Guard, responding by helicopter, had found the crash site on the side of a mountain and rescued three survivors. The crew flew them to Juneau and will return to search for two missing occupants.

"The caller reported that they had been (en) route from Juneau to Hoonah," Juneau police said.

Charter flight company Wings of Alaska told police that one of its Cessna 207 planes was involved in an accident and that the name of the caller matched that of a person on board the plane.
