Millionaire real estate heir Robert Durst’s life is so bizarre that HBO made a documentary series about it called “The Jinx.” But over the weekend, two major turns of events could end Durst’s freedom: his arrest in New Orleans in a 2000 killing, and the broadcast of his restroom mutterings that were picked up on his live microphone. The film retreads the life of New York real estate titan Robert Durst, who was suspected but never convicted in the murders of his wife, best friend and neighbor between 1982 and 2001.

Durst agreed on March 16, 2015, to be extradited to Los Angeles County from New Orleans to face a charge of first-degree murder in the 2000 death of a longtime friend. According to the AP, Durst was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of firearm and a controlled and dangerous substance. The charges are related to a revolver and bag of marijuana authorities found when he was arrested at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in New Orleans on March 14.

An extradition hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Durst’s attorneys have argued that the arrest was illegal.
Durst’s arrest came a day before HBO showed the final episode of “The Jinx,” featuring an audio recording in which Durst is heard saying he “killed them all.” The docuseries detailed the disappearance of Durst’s first wife, Berman’s murder and the killing of one of Durst’s neighbors.
