NEON SUNDAY
Jill Scott sings
at House of Blues
Equal parts honey and hellfire, Jill Scott possesses one of those voices that would still sound perfectly inviting if it was delivering a death threat.
The neo-soul siren is a poet, but don’t hold that against her: Scott’s not nearly as self-indulgent as some of her peers, whose words come freighted with so much faux-literary pretension that you’ll be reaching for a Britney Spears disc as a palate cleanser.
Instead, Scott’s repertoire is more subtle and refined, elegant, delicate and yet still lethal, like a porcelain bullet.
See her at 9 p.m. at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $42-$65; call 632-7600.
