NLV judges to have law degrees, be full time

North Las Vegas municipal judge candidates now must have law degrees and make judgeships their full-time jobs upon election.

Previously, judges in the city were neither required to have law degrees nor to make the judgeships full time.

Judge Warren Van Landschoot, before becoming a judge, spent nearly three decades with the North Las Vegas Police Department, where he worked as a police officer and detective.

Judge Sean Hoeffgen graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1996.

Both men already make the judgeships their full-time jobs.
