No foul play suspected in death of man found near Nellis

Las Vegas police do not suspect a man whose body that was found badly decomposed this morning near Nellis Air Force base died as a result of a homicide.

Police Lt. Christopher Hoye said the body was found about 8:30 a.m. in a remote desert area near the 4900 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North. He said homicide detectives concluded the man did not die from foul play.

Hoye said the body was so badly decomposed that detectives believe it was there for more than a week.

Hoye said there was no indication on the body that the unidentified man died from any trauma.

Homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said the man died from “exposure.”

An unnamed person found the remains in the northeast portion of the Air Force base, adjacent to federal land around Sunrise Mountain, said base spokeswoman Capt. Teresa Sullivan.

The Clark County coroner’s office will conduct on autopsy on the body to determine the man’s cause of death, Hoye said.
