Officer in Strip shooting is 10-year veteran

The Las Vegas police officer who shot into a car on the Strip at Harmon Avenue on Sunday morning was Sgt. Thomas Stoll, 55.

Stoll, a 10-year veteran with the Metropolitan Police Department, stopped Victor Ramos, 23, and another man in a Daewoo about 12:45 a.m. Both men were suspected of exchanging gunfire with people in another vehicle.

When Stoll approached the vehicle, he believed he saw the driver swing around with what he thought was a gun, police said.

Stoll fired one round through the driver’s side window. The round struck the vehicle’s dashboard, and no one was wounded in the incident.

Police arrested Ramos and booked him into the county jail on charges of firing a gun from a vehicle and illegal possession of a firearm.

Stoll is assigned to the patrol division out of the South Central Area Command.
