Pair accused of killing woman found guilty
A jury found two men accused of killing a 22-year-old Las Vegas woman guilty on all counts Friday night.
The panel found 20-year-old Jemar Matthews and 18-year-old Pierre Joshlin guilty of murdering Mercy Williams, who was talking with her two cousins and a friend outside a house at Balzar Avenue and Lexington Street in September when four gunmen approached and began firing.
The two defendants were also convicted of three counts of attempted murder for the shots fired at Williams’ cousins and friend.
They were found guilty of other felony charges related to a carjacking and a police chase that resulted in their arrest after the slaying.
Matthews and Joshlin are scheduled to be sentenced June 18.
Defense attorney Philip Singer, who represented Joshlin, said he plans to appeal. He said the jury only deliberated about four hours.
“I think they came back too quickly to really consider the facts,” he said.
Matthews’ attorney did not return calls from the Review-Journal on Monday.
