Recumbent cyclists set speed records

BATTLE MOUNTAIN — An annual human-powered speed contest in northeastern Nevada ended with record setting performances by recumbent bicyclists from Canada and France.

Barbara Bautois, of France, added three miles to the women’s speed record. The 32-year-old’s 75.4 miles per hour ride Friday eclipsed the record of 72.5 mph she set earlier in the week. Canadian Paralympic athlete Greg Westlake, 22, set a hand-powered speed record of 42.3 miles per hour.
