Reid’s wife released from ICU, ‘on a fast track to recovery’ after auto collision
WASHINGTON — Sen. Harry Reid’s wife was transferred out of the intensive care unit of a Northern Virginia hospital Saturday as she continues to recover from injuries in an auto collision.
Landra Reid was upgraded to good condition at Inova Fairfax Hospital and continues to improve, said a spokesman for the Senate majority leader from Nevada.
Reid, 69, underwent neck surgery Friday and also broke a bone in her back when the front and back of the minivan in which she was a passenger was crushed in a multi-car collision shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.
The accident took place on Interstate 95 about 15 miles south of Washington. Her daughter Lana Barringer, 49, who was driving the minivan, was treated and released from the hospital on Thursday night.
Reid spokesman Jon Summers said there is no update on when Reid will be discharged. Doctors on Friday said she was showing no signs of paralysis and they believed she might be sent home in a few days.
“Doctors say she is ‘on a fast track to recovery,’ ” Summers said in a statement.
